About this template
An alcove is a ready-made desk: three walls to carry the top, and no need for legs. The top sits on battens fixed to the walls, with a front rail to keep it from sagging across the span.
The drawer unit slides in under one side and the shelves above use the same walls, so the whole alcove works as one piece.
